WELCOME TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
Thank you for choosing Jackson General Hospital . A visit to any Emergency Department can be a very stressful time. It is our hope that, through this information, we can help you to better understand our process and help to alleviate concerns you may have.
THE ED PROCESS
Upon presenting to the Emergency Department, all patients must be registered by the patient or a family member/caregiver accompanying the patient. The patient will then participate in the triage process. The triage assessment is performed by a Registered Nurse. The order in which patients are seen is dependent upon the severity of their injury/illness. It is not dependent upon arrival time.
Once a patient has been taken to the exam room, the family members/caregivers will be asked to wait until an initial medical assessment and treatment have begun before they may enter the patient care area. The average wait time is 30 minutes. This, of course, is dependent upon the patient’s needs. If you wait longer than 30 minutes, please speak to the registration secretary and he/she will check with the ED charge nurse concerning this.
Please remember that the patient is our top priority during this time.
When visitors are allowed into the patient care area, we restrict the number to one visitor. We also ask that the number of times leaving and re-entering the department be limited. If excessive, the visitor may be asked to remain in the waiting area. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed to visit in the ED.
There will be times when all visitors may be asked to leave the Emergency Department to facilitate the care of our patients.
Please remember that the ED staff encourages and supports the inclusion of families and care givers in the ED process and as soon as possible, you will be able to return to the patient care area.
The Emergency Department staff will provide safe, quality care for our patients and families/caregivers. Realizing this may be a stressful time, we will include family members and caregivers as much as possible. We will make every effort to answer your questions and keep you informed. JGH staff are committed to providing CPR- Courtesy, Professionalism, and Respect - to all patients and visitors.
- Please follow Emergency Department guidelines.
- Remember that we will allow visitors but please anticipate a wait until the initial assessment and treatment are accomplished. Our patient is our priority.
- Please be aware that verbal or physical abuse of our staff will not be tolerated. Offenders will be removed promptly. Assaulting a healthcare worker is a felony.
